The Stigma Campaign kicked off in 2024 to educate and inform interested parties about its importance. The goal is to reach all interested audiences by fostering a deeper understanding of the importance of addressing stigma and the steps that can be taken to combat it.
Through a newly created website, readers will learn about stigma related to mental health, substance use disorder, harm reduction, and Medicated Assisted Treatment/ Medications for Opioid Use Disorder. In addition to presenting tangible steps to reduce stigma in each of the four areas, ten general steps were offered.
The page contains links to resources and other trainings, including the Recovery Ally Training and Naloxone Administration Training. There is also a link to the Language Matters blog which educates readers about the dangers of stigmatizing individuals through the language they use and offers suggestions for using destigmatizing language.
In an effort to get the word out, some materials have been developed. The below stickers and posters will be available by request beginning in January of 2025. If you know of any events that could benefit from these materials, feel free to reach out to agremaud@missouri.edu.
